Indigenous Language Hub – Macquarie University
The Indigenous Language Hub is a unique initiative dedicated to the reclamation, revitalisation, and celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages. Situated on Dharug Ngurra at the Wallumattagal campus, the Hub works in close partnership with Dharug language speakers and community members, while also embracing the diversity of languages spoken by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and staff from across the continent.
Language is more than communication—it is our heritage, and a vessel for passing on cultural knowledge. At the Hub, we support Aboriginal language speakers, we develop and provide tailored resources, and hands-on workshops, creating opportunities for meaningful engagement in language learning and cultural exchange. By privileging Dharug Dhalang while supporting many other Indigenous languages, the Hub fosters belonging, empowerment, and self-determination.
The Indigenous Language Hub is also a centre for research and collaboration. It draws on the expertise of Indigenous linguists, researchers, and community leaders to ensure that language work is Indigenous-led and community-driven. Through this work, the Hub is contributing to a future where Indigenous languages are living, thriving, and spoken on Country for generations to come.
